Terrestrial count of wildlife in the complex National Park of West Benin complex 2005 edition

Ecological monitoring is a part of the development and management plan for the W/ECOPAS Regional Park. It is part of the annual work plan (PTA) of the Park W/Benin management. In this sector, several activities concerning both the interior and the exterior of this Protected Areas are planned. Among the activities related to ecological monitoring, we mention the counting of wildlife. This activity was carried out jointly with the Niger component of the ECOPAS Programme in a spirit of regionality and in a framework of harmonization of a database common to the three components of the programme. The number of sectors covered by this edition remained consistent with those of the last three previous years with the addition of five new sectors. This improved the percentage of the area covered by the inventory. Thus 10 areas were concerned with this count. It is about:

  • The Mekrou hunting area
  • The south-western zone of the Park having the shape of a triangle
  • The area between Koudou and the triple point in the Park (Zapingou zone)
  • The Djona hunting area.
  • The area of pond 25,
  • The Barabo area
  • The Bangoutchiré area,
  • The triple point zone
  • The Sikoka zone
  • Sakanin-kofoni area
