In a recent presentation by the mayor of the town of Grand-Popo, Henrico Jocelyn Ayicoué Ahyi, we know more about the natural resources whose preservation is necessary for the balance of the ecosystem. Entitled “Assessment of activities to protect the environment and promote ecotourism in the municipality of Grand-Popo from 2015 to 2020”, this presentation by the mayor focuses on the actions as well as the activities carried out in the context of the preservation of the environment.
According to the mayor, the municipality of Grand-Popo is full of important renewable natural resources whose rational management is a necessity for its ecological balance. It offers the view a real wild and natural environmental aesthetic and has a natural setting characterized by a large body of water, a lagoon, vast plains and swamps, an important and splendid coastline.

“The problem of managing the environment and natural resources is of major importance for the sustainable development of the territory of Grand-Popo and the survival of populations in a context where climate change and non-responsible tourism now constitute a major threat to the environment and sustainable development”, he notes.
The document presented on December 30, 2020, indicates that from 2015 to 2020, several activities are carried out to protect the environment in the municipality of Grand-Popo. Among others, the creation of the Bouche du Roy Community Conservation Area (Accb), the management of the Bouche du Roy mouth, the protection of marine turtles, the establishment of the Gbaga Channel Natural Resources Management Board (Accb). The inventory of tourist sites in the municipality and the analysis of their pathologies, the development of the strategic plan for the tourism sector and other projects integrating the environment are also among the actions carried out.
