2022 Aug 19Report on the implementation of the project: “Sensitization of national actors on the conservation of biodiversity in Benin.
Faced with the worrying deterioration of the elements of biological diversity, the international community adopted the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) in June 1992. The ratification of this Convention by Benin in June 1994 testifies to the manifest political will of our country to contribute to the conservation and sustainable use of biological diversity, whose importance for the survival of all beings on planet Earth is well established. But it is clear that despite the multiple actions undertaken since 2002, some of which have produced positive impacts, the situation of biological diversity in Benin is not good. Indeed, the main anthropogenic pressures that continue to weigh on biological diversity in Benin are called: habitat loss, unsustainable use, overexploitation of resources and pollution. These factors of degradation persist due to the low public awareness of the importance of biodiversity for life as well as the measures to be taken to contribute to its conservation. This is why CEIBA ONG supported the Directorate-General for Forests and Natural Resources (DGFRN) in 2013 in implementing the “12 actions for biodiversity” initiative through a project co-financed by the Royal Belgian Institute of Natural Sciences (IRSNB).
The ambition of CEBA ONG, in view of the concrete results obtained, is to continue the implementation of this initiative while innovating in the awareness-raising process.
This document is the report that summarizes the activities carried out.
