2016 Apr 01Report on the implementation of the project: “Information and awareness-raising among the population on water pollution in Benin”
Water pollution is obvious in Benin because also the management of waste coupled with the population's ignorance of the harmful effects that this could cause both on human health and on biological diversity is a serious problem that deserves particular attention. Also, domestic water is directly dumped onto public roads and for the most part of the time collectors dump their waste directly into waterways, thus contaminating these ecosystems. This is why a project entitled “Information and awareness-raising of the population on water pollution in Benin” is being implemented in Benin, financed by the two DGFRN-IRSNB structures. The overall objective of this project is to inform and raise awareness among the population of Cotonou about the consequences of water pollution on biodiversity and therefore on human health and to educate decision-makers on their role and good practices in managing household and hospital waste and waste from major industries in the city of Cotonou.
