On Thursday, July 11, 2013, the President of the Republic, His Excellency Dr. Boni Yayi officially launched the 10 million souls, 10 million trees project. It is on the estate located in the ZOPAH district in the Commune of Abomey Calavi that members of the government, Honorable Deputies, members of the diplomatic corps, the military high command, local elected officials and dignitaries and traditional leaders planted seedlings for the launch of this vast campaign to green the country.
The “10 million souls, 10 million trees” project aims to combat desertification, the effects of climate change and to promote biological diversity in order to improve the living environment of the populations of Benin. And to achieve this, the original formula that the Beninese Government has found is to get each Beninese man and woman to plant and maintain at least one tree, in order to obtain each year, and for five years, a number of new trees at least equal to the number of new trees at least equal to the size of the population, estimated in 2013 at about 10 million inhabitants. This document presents the report of activities.
