Assessment of the protection of biodiversity “Ecological monitoring in the Pendjari National Park, Benin”

The Pendjari Biosphere Reserve (RBP), more commonly known as Pendjari National Park (PNB), is
located in the extreme north-west of Benin. It is part of a large group of reserves in the region and extends
over 275,000 hectares (470,000 hectares including hunting areas). The Pendjari National Park is an
integral part of the WAP transboundary complex, which also includes the W Park (Benin, Niger, Burkina Faso), the Arly Reserve (Burkina Faso). This transboundary complex is the largest set of
terrestrial, semi-aquatic and aquatic ecosystems in West Africa. It protects half of the West African
elephant population (some 4,000 elephants recorded in 2010 throughout the cross-border complex), more than 378 species of sedentary and migratory birds. This document is the report of the evaluation of the protection of biodiversity.
