The results recorded in this report result from the execution of the sovereign missions of the Direction Générale des Eaux, Forêts et Chasse (DGEFC) and from the implementation of the DGEFC's Annual Work Plan (PTA) for 2017. In addition, it is necessary to monitor the activities of other structures of the Forest Administration and the implementation of international agreements and conventions.
The total national number of personnel involved in the structures of the Forest Administration is 770, including 592 water, forest and hunting officials.
Under the 2017 National Reforestation Campaign, a total of 5,635,907 plants were planted on an area of 4,651 ha and 459,207 linear meters. In 2017, 903 approvals (professional cards) were granted to 445 wood users. The volume of lumber authorized to be exploited amounts to 122,073 m3, including 1,850.45 m3 for the exploitation of indigenous species. The volume of firewood exploited and recorded is 43,117 cubic meters while that of charcoal is 2,124,429 bags called “50 kg”. A total volume of 88,373.5 m3 of wood was exported, mainly composed of the species Tectona grandis (57%) and Pterocarpus erinaceus (33%). In total, 255 cutting permits were granted for the exploitation of 281 feet of indigenous lumber species and 857,139 feet of service wood. 703 offenses were registered during the year at the level of Forest Inspections and the DGEFC for a total transaction amount recovered of 887 542 371 CFA francs. The total balance of forest revenues paid to the Public Treasury for 2017 indicates a total amount of 3,379,390059 CFA compared to 1,217,556,586 CFA francs for the year 2016, i.e. a meteoric increase of around 177%. During the year 2017, the DGEFC was supported by six (06) projects and programs under the PEFC: The Program for the Management of Forests and Riverlands - Additional Funding (PGFTR-FA), the Program for Intensive Reforestation of the National Territory through Incentive Measures (PRI), the Project for the Substitution of Wood-Energy by Domestic Gas (PSBE-GAZ), the Program for Intensive Reforestation of the National Territory through Incentive Measures (PRI), the Project to Support the Preservation of National Territory through Incentives (PRI), the Project to Replace Wood Energy with Domestic Gas (PSBE-GAZ) and the Development of Gallery Forests and the production of a numerical base map (PAPDFGC), the Communal Forest Management Support Project Phase II (PAGEFCOM II) and the Mono Delta Transboundary Biosphere Reserve Project (PRBTDM).
