Whale watching in the coastal sea, or “Whale watching” in English, is the approach chosen by the Non-Governmental Organization Tropical Nature to convince stakeholders and especially
authorities at various levels of the need to take measures to protect whales in Benin. Present on our coasts, these gigantic marine mammals travel thousands of kilometers to come and reproduce in the Gulf of Benin and teach their babies the first gestures of marine life. Very poorly developed in Africa, and particularly in West Africa, “Whale watching” is an activity widely practiced in some countries of the world, and especially on the Atlantic coasts of the Americas. It then makes it possible to promote whales through ecotourism, but also to mobilize the authorities around the protection of cetaceans.
