2022 Jul 01Strategies and scenarios for engaging the agriculture (cotton and food crops) and forest exploitation (lumber and forestry) sectors for the conservation of biodiversity in Benin
The project to facilitate commitments for biodiversity by 2030 (BIODEV2030), which is being implemented in 16 pilot countries, aims in Benin to promote ambitious voluntary commitments and clear accountability mechanisms that bring about changes at the level of economic actors. Following a national assessment of threats to biodiversity based on scientific data conducted by the Laboratory of Applied Ecology (LEA) of the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences of the University of Abomey-Calavi (FSA-UAC), this project launched the present study on the strategies and scenarios for engaging the sectors of agriculture (cotton and food crops) and forest exploitation (lumber and forestry) for the conservation of biodiversity in Benin. Thus, the focus was put on the cotton, rice, soybean sectors and the lumber and forestry subsectors.
