In addition to these advantages, the categorization of protected areas in Benin makes it possible to integrate areas other than classified forests and national parks, in this case sacred and communal forests and marine areas,
into the national system of protected areas. It will strengthen conservation in protected
areas and provide the opportunity to create new ones.
In view of the advantages and importance of this harmonization, a first attempt to
categorize protected areas in Benin is initiated. Achieving this objective will facilitate access to international
opportunities for the conservation of protected areas in order to better preserve
the country's biological resources.
The present report is thus a report of this categorization.
