In Benin, domestic animals continue to pay a heavy price for various pathologies. A
survey was conducted in North Benin to identify recipes for veterinary use, select the most
credible ones and assess the vulnerability of the plants involved. It consisted of semi-structured individual interviews with
60 farmers. A total of 56 plant species have been mentioned. They are divided into 50 genera
and 22 families. The families most represented in species are: Leguminosae (34%) and Combretaceae (11%).
A total of 86 recipes have been identified to treat 31 pathologies with Foot and Mouth Disease as the most
common (19%). The frequency of recipes (Fr) and the citation of recipes (Fcr) made it possible to select
those that are more credible. Stem bark is more cited with a percentage of 61%. Eight (08)
methods of preparation are indicated with the decoction (49%) as the most frequent. Thirty-one (31)
species were found to be vulnerable. This document presents the results of this study, which allowed the selection of some credible recipes.
