Article 10 of the CBD states that each contracting party must protect and encourage the customary use of biological resources in accordance with cultural and traditional practices compatible with the requirements of their conservation or sustainable use. Indeed, within rural communities, local populations with a long experience in using biological resources, there are practices, habits and customs, traditions, and others that value the components of biological diversity and contribute to their conservation. It is important to list all of its practices, to preserve them, to popularize them and to promote them because they allow the conservation and sustainable use of biological diversity.This document takes stock of all the cultural and traditional practices observed within the local communities of Benin.
