2020 Jan 01Contribution to the sustainable management of mangrove ecosystems in West Africa
Faced with the threats to mangrove ecosystems in the West African region,
States, environmental protection NGOs and Community
Based Organizations (CBOs) have implemented strategies to conserve and better manage
mangrove forests: reforestation campaigns, the erection of large areas in protected areas, the
promotion of modern and traditional techniques and knowledge, among others.
After more than a decade of action, the ecological, environmental and
socio-economic impacts of these strategies remain poorly evaluated in the region. Thus, following
numerous meetings, the countries grouped together in the African
Mangrove Conservation Network (RAM) decided to assess the efforts and strategies carried out to regenerate mangroves over
the past ten years and in five countries in West Africa. This document is the report.
