2022 Aug 18FIRST BENINESE DAYS OF PROTECTED AREAS
In June 2005, national experts at various levels met at the invitation of Professor Brice SINSIN, Vice President of the World Commission on Protected Areas (WCPA) for Central and Western Africa, to discuss the draft Action Plan for more dynamism in the sustainable management of protected areas in West and Central Africa. At the end of this meeting, it was decided to dedicate a day to promote the efforts of African States and the International Community to devote part of the human and financial resources to the conservation of Protected Areas. Thus, the day of the third Friday in June of each year is now devoted to this event for the Republic of Benin. As part of the organization of the First Days of Protected Areas in Benin, the Vice President of the World Commission on Protected Areas for Central and West Africa, in partnership with the National Center for the Management of Wildlife Reserves, sent a letter of invitation to the authorities and persons involved directly or indirectly, in the management of Protected Areas and Nature, to participate in the events on 16 and 17 June 2006 planned at the premises of the Institute of Applied Biomedical Sciences. (ISBA) at the Fairgrounds in Cotonou, the economic capital of Benin. The First Beninese Protected Areas Days were an opportunity to introduce guests and the general public to the various aspects of the valorization of Benin's Protected Areas. In addition, these days were an opportunity for meetings and open dialogue, the aim of which is to exchange and strengthen the capacities of the various national and international technical and scientific skills that were present there, as well for the various partners involved in the management of protected areas in Benin.
