2022 Aug 17Third National Week of Protected Areas in Benin
Protected areas are an ideal framework for meeting this commitment. In this context, the Republic of Benin saw the interest in defending tenaciously, consistently, unreservedly and proudly the maintenance of ecological integrity as an absolutely priority factor in the management of Protected Areas, by translating into practices, everything that is clearly stated in national biodiversity management policies. By embarking on this path, Benin hopes to conserve and sustainably use its biological diversity. The Third Benin Protected Areas Week was celebrated in the premises of the Institute of Applied Biomedical Sciences (ISBA) at the Cotonou Fairgrounds, from 14 to 22 June 2008. This week has become important in terms of volume of participants and concrete proposals for the sustainable management of Benin's Protected Areas. It brought together several actors (managers, researchers, local actors, local actors, political decision-makers, economists), for exchanges and capacity building, around the central theme entitled: “The conservation of Protected Areas for the benefit of local populations and for the training of scientific skills”. This report provides an overview of activities, scientific and technical communications and the resulting recommendations.
